STATUTORY NOTICE: CHANGES TO HERTFORD INFANT AND HERTFORD JUNIOR SCHOOLS, BRIGHTON

Notice is given in accordance with the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (the Act), as amended, that Brighton & Hove City Council, Hove Town Hall, Norton Road, Hove BN3 3BQ intends to make the following changes;

Part 1: Discontinuation of Hertford Junior School so that an all through primary school can be established.

In accordance with section 15(1) of the Act to discontinue Hertford Junior School 66 Lynchet Cl, Brighton, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 7FP from 1st September 2024. The proposal is linked to the prescribed alteration set out in Part 2, to create an all through primary school with an extended age range of 4 to 11 (see part 2 of this notice). Pupils attending Hertford Junior School at the time of closure will be offered places at Hertford Primary School, which, subject to Part 2, will change its age range and enlarge its capacity, becoming an all through primary school located at 66 Lynchet Cl, Brighton, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 7FP from 1st September 2024.

Part 2: Prescribed changes to Hertford Infant School so that it becomes an all through primary school located at 66 Lynchet Cl, Brighton, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 7FP from 1st September 2024.

In accordance with section 19(1) of the Act to make a prescribed alteration to Hertford Infant School, Hertford Rd, Brighton, BN1 7GF from 1st September 2024 by

1) changing the age range of the school by a year or more and,

2) enlarging the premises of the school and relocating to 66 Lynchet Cl, Brighton, Brighton and Hove, Brighton BN1 7FP.

The current age range of the school is 4 to 7. The Local Authority proposes to extend the age range of the school to create an all through primary school that will cater for pupils from age 4 to age 11. The current capacity of the school is 90. The proposed capacity of the primary school will be 210. It is proposed that the admission number for the school will be 30. It is proposed that the increase in capacity will be achieved by utilising the premises of the former junior school that is located at 66 Lynchet Cl, Brighton, BN1 7FP The distance between the sites is 0.3 miles (as the crow flies) and 0.5 miles walking route.
