NOTICE OF A MOD EXERCISE AT VULCAN

As a routine part of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) contingency planning arrangements, Vulcan Naval Reactor Test Establishment (NRTE) will be holding a security incident response exercise on 1 June 2023. The site is required to annually demonstrate plans for responding to the extremely unlikely event of a security incident involving an attempt to gain unauthorised access to the facility.

The exercise play will be contained within the Vulcan NRTE and Dounreay site boundaries. The Site Emergency Alarm at Vulcan will be sounded between 0900 and 1200 hours. Members of the public outside the site may hear the alarm. However, they will not be affected or required to take any action.

Nuclear Safety and Security is given the highest priority by the MOD. This exercise is part of a group of activities conducted by the MOD to ensure our response arrangements can deal with even the unlikeliest events and mirrors the type of arrangements undertaken by civil nuclear sites.

Any queries should be directed to the PR office, HM Naval Base Clyde, Faslane, telephone 07764146251.
