What is happening?

COUNTY OF MERSEYSIDE ACT 1980 (AS AMENDED)
THE MERSEY TUNNELS (REVISION OF TOLLS) ORDER 2023

Notice is hereby given, in accordance with the provision of section 92B of the County of Merseyside Act 1980 (as amended) that on 23 February 2023 the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority (“the Authority”) pursuant to a resolution it passed on 16 December 2022, made the Mersey Tunnels (Revision of Tolls) Order 2023 (“the Order”). The Order comes into force on 1 April 2023. Article 2 of the Order sets the levels of the tolls payable for use of the Mersey Tunnels in accordance with the inflation-related provisions of the County of Merseyside Act 1980 (as amended by, in particular, the Mersey Tunnels Act 2004). Those tolls are set out in the column marked “Authorised Toll” in the Schedule below. However the Authority also resolved, on 16 December 2022, to discount the Tolls from their authorised levels and accordingly, with effect from 1 April 2023, the Tolls that will be charged for each class of traffic will be those at the discounted levels set out in (a), (b), (c) and (d) and columns (3), (4) and (5) of the Schedule below. 

THE SCHEDULE
 (a) The waiving of tunnel tolls for liveried emergency service vehicles from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024 inclusive 
 (b) The waiving of tunnel tolls for all vehicles between 22.00 on 24 December 2023 and 06.00 on 26 December 2023 
 (c) Class 2 journeys will be discounted by 50% for all local services (as defined by section 2 of the Transport Act 1985) with a registered Fast tag account for any services conveying passengers through either of the Mersey Tunnels.
 (d) The taxi and private hire vehicles that are Class 2 vehicles are discounted to Class 1 rates.
