What is happening?

SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL

TEMPORARY FOOTPATH CLOSURE
ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that South Tyneside Council intends to make an Order under S.14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians on the following footpaths:- Monk 24, Hebburn from 1-14 Southport Pde. Monk 3, Hebburn from 17-25 Brighton
Pde. Monk 41 from 1-8, 9-16 Hastings Pde. Monk 15 from 15-28 Torquay Pde, 16 Brighton Pde, 33 Hastings Pde, 12-16 Blackpool Pde. Monk 41 from 1-10, 45-48, 29-32, 33 Blackpool Pde. Monk 43 from 39-44, 33-38, 25-28 Blackpool Pde. Monk 4 from 1-4 Torquay Pde, 9-12 Bridlington Pde, 15-24 Blackpool Pde.
Monk 41 from 1-8 Brighton Pde, 29-31, 5-14 Torquay Pde, side of 18 Bridlington Pde. Monk 5 from 9-12 Brighton Pde. The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the footpath, and in particular to enable Northern Gas Networks to carry out gas replacement works. The
Order will come into force on the 13/8/26. The maximum duration of the prohibition under this Order will be 6 mths. However it is anticipated that the prohibition will only be needed from 19/8/26 for 70 days. All pedestrians except those engaged in the works, will be prohibited on the footpath described above for the duration of the works. The prohibition shall only apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to
time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. During the prohibition, the alternative route will be indicated via signage.
