1. Notice is hereby given that enfinium Limited (company number 07593865) of 2nd Floor, 123 Victoria Street, London, England, SW1E 6DE (‘the Applicant’), intends to make an application to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero for development consent under Section 37 of the Planning Act 2008 for the Ferrybridge Carbon Capture and Storage proposed development (hereafter referred to as ‘Ferrybridge CCS’), directed by the Secretary of State as a project of national significance under section 35 of the 2008 Planning Act.
2. The proposed application for development consent for Ferrybridge CCS is being compiled and consulted upon by the Applicant.
3. Ferrybridge CCS is an ‘EIA development’ for the purposes of the Infrastructure Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2017. This means that the proposed works constitute development for which an Environmental Impact Assessment is required and the proposed application for the DCO will therefore be accompanied by an Environmental Statement (ES). The ES will provide a detailed description of the project and its likely significant environmental effects.
Summary of proposed works
4. enfinium operates Ferrybridge 1&2, which are the largest combined Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities currently operating in the UK. enfinium is planning to install post-combustion Carbon Capture Technology and Storage (CCS) equipment (including Absorber column(s), Stripper column(s), Flue gas cooling/heat exchanger(s), Solvent cooling/heat exchanger(s), Flue gas re- heater(s) and Carbon Processing and Conditioning Plant(s) for the conditioning, compression, dehydration, and, if required, liquefication and refrigeration of the captured carbon) to serve both Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities, together with ancillary equipment, changes to site roads and railways, landscaping, drainage ponds, lighting and fencing.
5. The application site is located to the north west of Knottingley in West Yorkshire, east of the A1(M) at the point it is joined by the M62 at Junction 32A. It is in the administrative area of Wakefield Metropolitan Borough Council. The CCS facilities would be constructed on land primarily within the Ferrybridge 1&2 sites. A map of the site’s location can be seen in the ‘Project Location’ section included on this page of the Planning Inspectorate website:

https://national-infrastructure- consenting.planninginspectorate.gov.uk/projects/EN0710002

6. The proposed DCO will, among other things, authorise the construction and operation of the CCS facility and associated development, incorporate related environmental licences and consents, authorise utility connections and diversions and works to streets, and, where required, provide for the compulsory acquisition of land or rights over land and the temporary possession of land.
