Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan - (Proposed Submission)

Representation Period: 23 September to 05 November 2026

WELWYN HATFIELD BOROUGH COUNCIL is publishing and proposing to submit for examination a new Local Plan for the Borough. In accordance with Regulation 19 of The Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012, the Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan and its supporting documents including but not limited to the Sustainability Appraisal, Habitats Regulations Assessment and Equality Impacts Assessment, have been published for public consultation. The Local Plan sets out the vision and framework for guiding development within Welwyn Hatfield up to 2043. It is a statutory document which contains policies and site allocations that the Council will use to determine planning applications.

Inspect The Documents

All consultation and evidence base documents are available online via: www.welwynhatfieldlocalplan.commonplace, is and for reference only at: Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, The Campus, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6AE, Monday to Thursday 08:45am – 5:15pm, Friday 08:45am – 4:45pm. Copies of the Local Plan will also be available at Libraries within Welwyn Hatfield and at Town or Parish Council offices during normal opening hours.

Representations

Representations should focus on whether the Welwyn Hatfield Local Plan is Legally Compliant and whether it is considered to meet the tests of Soundness, as specified in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). Those making a representation should also state whether they would like to be notified that the plan has been submitted for independent examination, speak at the independent examination, be notified of the release of the Inspector’s report, or of adoption of the Local Plan. Representations should be made through the Council's online portal: www.welwynhatfieldlocalplan.commonplace, Alternatively, emails may be sent to: localplanconsultation@welhat.gov.uk, or letters sent to: Planning Policy, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, The Campus, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6AE.

All representations made will be sent to the Planning Inspectorate and published on the Council's website alongside other submission documents once the Local Plan is submitted for examination in late 2026.

Responses must be submitted by 6:00pm on 05 November 2026.
