Notice of application for a transfer licence to abstract (take) water

Costain Limited has applied to the Environment Agency for a licence.

The Environment Agency is giving notice of this application, in accordance with Section 37 of the Water Resources Act 1991 and Regulation 6 of the Water Resources (Abstraction and Impounding) Regulations 2006.

The application is for a licence to abstract water from the area defined by National Grid References TQ 71711 61158, TQ 71792 61165, TQ 71797 61115 and TQ 71715 61108 at Burham Water Supply Works and to transfer it to the River Medway at National Grid Reference TQ 71560 61130 without intervening use.

The application is to abstract water as follows:
• 216 cubic metres an hour

• 5,184 cubic metres a day

• 544,320 cubic metres a year

• between 01 April and 31 March inclusive in each year.

Abstraction will take place for approximately 2 years from the point of issue.

Dewatering is required to ensure a safe working environment for the construction of a single cofferdam, which will facilitate the installation of gravity filters and backwash tanks.
