In the news: Public hearing date set

A date has been set for a Hearing in respect of unauthorised development at Land at and Land East of Meadow Cottage, Nevendon Road.

The Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State will hold the hearing opening at 10am on Wednesday 2 September 2026 at The St Georges Suite at The Basildon Centre, St Martin’s Square, Basildon, Essex, SS14 1DL and is scheduled to last for 2 days. Any person may attend the hearing and, at the Inspector’s discretion, give their views, or appoint someone to speak on their behalf.

The hearing follows appeals by Mr Thomas Cooper, relating to two enforcement notices issued by Basildon Council alleging:

Land at Meadow Cottage (APP/V1505/C/26/3378565) – Without planning permission, the material change in use of the Land to a mixed-use comprising; residential use of independent dwellinghouses known as Meadow Cottage, The Barn and The Stables; a caravan site, including the stationing of caravans and their use for residential purposes independent of the dwellinghouses; and for storage purposes including the storage of horseboxes, trailers and a digger.

Land East of Meadow Cottage (APP/V1505/C/26/3378564) – Without planning permission, the material change in use of the Land to a mixed use comprising the importation, deposition, storage and spreading of hardcore and other waste materials together with the keeping of horses.
