Rossendale - Planning Application For Development
What is planned?
PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990
NOTICE PURSUANT TO THE PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990 UNDER SECTION 69 DESIGNATION OF CONSERVATION AREAS AND SECTION 70 DESIGNATION OF CONSERVATION AREAS: SUPPLEMENTARY PROVISIONS
Notice is hereby given that Rossendale Borough Council in pursuance of its powers under sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 has determined that the area identified in the Waterfoot Conservation Area Boundary shown on Rossendale Borough Council's website at https://www. rossendale.gov.uk/heritage/heritage-1/3 is an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance. The Council has therefore designated this area as a conservation area which is to be known as the Waterfoot Conservation Area. The Council has notified all relevant statutory bodies and has taken other such steps as are considered requisite to bring the designation to the attention of persons affected. The designation was formally resolved by the Council on 8 July 2026.
The area will become subject to planning regulations and controls set out under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.
The effect of designation as a conservation area is to assist the local planning authority in preserving or enhancing the special architectural or historic interest of the area through the assessment of applications for development and through other enhancement works. Permitted development rights may be affected as there will be increased controls over the demolition and alteration of buildings, and work to trees.
A Boundary Map defining the precise boundaries of the Waterfoot Conservation Area, and the Waterfoot Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan can be viewed online on the Council's website: https://www. rossendale.gov.uk/heritage/heritage-1/3 and in person at Rossendale Borough Council Customer Services Hub, Futures Park, Bacup OL13 0BB during normal opening hours.
