NOTICE OF MAKING OF A DIRECTION MADE UNDER ARTICLE 4(1)

Bury Metropolitan Borough Council (“the Council”) made a Direction pursuant to Article 4(1) of the GPDO on 10th July 2026 in respect of the Borough of Bury.

The Direction relates to development comprising change of use of a building from a use falling within Class C3 (dwellinghouses) of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (as amended) to a use falling within Class C4 (houses in multiple occupation) of that Order and withdraws permitted development rights for this type of development. An application will therefore need to be made to the Council for the grant of planning permission under Part III of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended) before such development can be undertaken.

The Direction comes into effect immediately but the Council will consider any representations submitted by 27th August 2026 in deciding whether to confirm the Direction. Any representation must be submitted in writing either via email to planning.policy@bury.gov.uk or by post to:

A copy of the Direction and a plan to which it relates can be viewed:

i) online at: www.bury.gov.uk/article4directions

A further notice will be published stating whether or not the Direction has been confirmed by the Council.
