What is planned?

The Electricity (Applications for Consent) Regulations 1990: Regulation 5 - Publication of Notice of Application for Consent under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that an application is being made by National Grid Electricity Distribution (South Wales) plc to the Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero under Section 37 of the Electricity Act 1989, for their consent to erect replacement poles on an existing 132kV overhead line that feeds out of Brynhill Barry Substation and runs through a designated area that falls under Barry Woodland SSSI. The poles are within Pencoedtre Wood accessible from Barry Link Road, (A4231) Barry, Vale of Glamorgan.

The proposed work is necessary to maintain the reliability of the existing network that feeds into the local and wider electricity network. There are 2 x H Poles and 2 x single poles that require replacement on a like for like basis.

A hard copy of the proposal plan can be obtained free of charge by emailing a request to: kjones2@nationalgrid.co.uk

Any representation concerning this Section 37 application should be made referencing the name of the overhead line (BD Pole Changes - Barry - CW53033) by email to s37consents@energysecurity.gov.uk or to the following address: The Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, 7th Floor, 3 Whitehall Place, London, SW1A 2AW, on or before the 15th August 2026.

Any such objections or representations will be copied to the relevant planning authorities and the applicant unless the person making them requests in writing that they should not be so copied. If there is such a request then the relevant planning authorities and the applicant will only be informed that an objection has been made but no details will be forwarded to them.
