TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING (SCOTLAND) ACT 1997 (AS AMENDED) ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT (SCOTLAND) ACT 2005
Midlothian Council has prepared a proposed local development plan for the Midlothian area comprising a development strategy for its future development to 2037, and a detailed policy framework for guiding development. It relates to new housing, economic and retail development, new transport links, schools and other infrastructure, along with guidance on the countryside, Green Belt and natural and built heritage conservation.
The Council has also prepared a draft environmental report which considers the likely significant environmental effects of the proposed local development plan.
Copies of the above documents, along with an accompanying draft Delivery Programme relating to the delivery of the proposed local development plan, are available for inspection during normal opening hours at Fairfield House, 8 Lothian Road, Dalkeith, EH22 3AA and all Midlothian libraries. The documents may also be viewed at www.midlothian.gov.uk/MLDP2 where further information is available.
Any person wishing to make representations to the Council on the content of the proposed local development plan and/or express an opinion on the draft environmental report, should do so through the online questionnaire at www.midlothian.gov.uk/MLDP2. Alternatively, representations and opinions can be submitted in writing to Local Development Plan Team, Planning Service, Midlothian Council, Fairfield House, 8 Lothian Road, Dalkeith, EH22 3AA. Forms are available from Fairfield House reception, all Midlothian libraries, the Council’s website and on request from the Duty Planning Officer (0131 271 3302) or by email from LDP@midlothian.gov.uk
Representations and opinions must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 25th September 2026. 30 June 2026
