PLANNING APPLICATION FOR REFURBISHMENT AND EXTENTION AT THE THOMPSON PRIMARY

The Planning Act (Northern Ireland) 2011, The Planning (Development Management) Regulations
(Northern Ireland) 2015 (Regulation 5 (2) (b)) and The Planning (Miscellaneous Amendments)
Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2025.

PRE‐APPLICATION COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

Proposal: Refurbishment and extension of existing school with new staff car park and dedicated
school drop-off within the school, accessed from the Ballyrobert Road. The development will comprise
the partial demolition of the existing school with the removal of 4 no. mobile classrooms. The
extension will be single storey and include 4 no. new classrooms, a new multi-purpose Hall, upgraded
heating systems and all ancillary development. Provision for photovoltaic panels (PV panels) on the
school roof.
On behalf of the Applicant, the Education Authority, we would like to make you aware of the proposed
development as outlined above and at the following location:

How information may be obtained concerning the proposed development:
A Public Consultation Event will be held at Corr’s Corner Hotel (315 Ballyclare Road,
Newtownabbey, BT36 4TQ) on Thursday 2nd July 2026 between 3pm – 6:30pm. This event
will provide members of the public with the opportunity to learn further details in respect of the
proposal and provide to feedback to the project design team.

Members of the public can
provide feedback on the proposal via the project website. The project website will be live and
accessible from Thursday 2nd July 2026 until Friday 31st July 2026.

The pre-application consultation period will begin on Thursday 2 nd July 2026 and formally end on
Friday 31st July 2026. Members of the public must provide their feedback before Friday 31st July.
Please note that this notice does not relate to a submitted planning application, therefore comments
should not be made to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council at this time. Any comments made
to the applicant are not representations to the planning authority. Once the planning application is
submitted to the Council (after the pre-application community consultation phase) you may then make
representations to the Council regarding the proposal.
