ENVIRONMENT AGENCY

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE
AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the
Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage
Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999
SI 1999/1783

Elmer Beach Management Scheme

The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to the flood defences on Elmer Beach in Elmer, Bognor Regis between Poole Place Rock Groyne (NGR SU9952000220) and The Elmer Rife Outfall (NGR SU9916100061), a distance of 0.4 kilometres. The proposed improvement works will involve the following: the extension of rock breakwater 7 by 30m and import of 40,000m3 of shingle. We will also carry out repairs to the Elmer Rife outfall pipe which is in poor condition.

The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. We have consulted Natural England and planned the works to avoid any adverse effect on the environment. This includes not bringing in sea vessels until the 1st August to avoid impact to foraging terns. We have prepared an Environment Report and an Environmental Action Plan which can be obtained by contacting William Culley at Teville Gate House or ssdenquiries@environment-agency.gov.uk or 0370 850 6506. Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.

Mr William Culley of the Environment Agency,
Teville Gate House, Teville Road, Worthing
