Notice of Amendments to Central Barrow Conservation Area
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Sections 69 and 70 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, Westmorland and Furness Council has amended the boundary of the Central Barrow conservation area, with effect from 21st April 2026.
The designated Central Barrow Conservation Area shall now comprise the whole conservation area as declared in 1981 with the inclusion of Coronation Gardens and Emlyn Hughes House on Abbey Road, Cavendish Street between Duke Street and Dalkeith Street plus Hollywood Bar and Theatre Bar, the King’s Arms public house on Dalton Road, Alfred Barrow Health Centre on Duke Street and apartment buildings on Michaelson Road; and exception of the Holiday Inn and vacant commercial premises in Market Street, modern retail units in Hindpool Retail Park, commercial units in Hindpool Road and Hawke Street terraced houses.
A map showing the boundary of the area may be viewed from the Council’s website or inspected during normal office hours at the offices of Westmorland and Furness Council, Town Hall, Duke Street, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
