Newry, Mourne and Down District Council - Planning Application Validation Checklist
What is planned?
Planning (General Development Procedure) (Amendment)
Order (Northern Ireland) 2024.
Under The Planning (General Development Procedure)
(Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2024, which was
published by the Department for Infrastructure on 1 October
2024 and came into operation on 1 April 2025, councils are
permitted to prepare and publish a Validation Checklist
specifying the information and details required to accompany
planning applications.
The purpose of the Validation Checklist is to reduce unnecessary
delays in the planning application process by setting out, for
the benefit of relevant parties, the level and type of supporting
information required to be submitted with an application to make
it a ‘valid’ application and enable it to be processed.
The Validation Checklist applies to applications for outline
permission, full permission and approval of reserved matters.
Newry Mourne and Down District Council has prepared a Validation
Checklist for the District. This is now available to view on the
Council’s website at
www.newrymournedown.org/planning
The Validation Checklist will be implemented to take effect from
Monday 1 June 2026. All planning applications received on or
after this date will be processed in accordance with the terms
of the Validation Checklist.
