Shenley - Common Land Highway Access Works
What is planned?
ROADSIDE VERGES OF HARRIS’ LANE COMMON - CL297
Griggs (Options) Limited has applied to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for consent under section 38 of the Commons Act 2006 to carry out restricted works on Roadside Verges of Harris’ Lane Common. The Planning Inspectorate will decide the application on behalf of the Secretary of State.
The proposed works are:
(a) Carriageway works – Formation of a new bellmouth vehicular access from Harris Lane, comprising of new carriageway surfacing in bituminous materials. The area of the carriageway works within the common land is approximately 36.1 square meters.
(b) Footway works – Construction of pedestrian footway in the vicinity of the new access, including kerb lines and edge restraints, surfaced in bituminous materials. The area of the footway works within the common land is approximately 30.4 square meters (this figure reflects a refined design that has reduced the footway extent within the common)
(c) Tactile paving – installation of a small area of tactile paving at a pedestrian crossing point within the common land, comprising approximately 1.0 square meter.
The total area of permanent works within the registered common land is therefore approximately 67.5 square meters.
The materials used will be consistent with those typically found in the highway environment, matching existing hardstanding in the vicinity. Kerbs and edge restraints will be standard precast concrete kerbing. Tactile paving will be standard buff-coloured blister paving units.
The works will be located on the roadside verges of Harris Lane, Shenley, Hertfordshire.
