What is planned?

Marine Licence Pre-Application Consultation (PAC) –
Statutory Notification

Project to restore 2.5 ha of subtidal seagrass in the Sound of Harris, SE of Berneray, centred around 57° 41.830'N, 007° 08.812'W, WGS84. The project is designed to be outwith nearby navigation channels and zoned fishing areas but will be within a Special Protection Area and area with Priority Marine Features.
Namara Projects Ltd (SC414402), Sunhill, Berneray with reference to Section 23 of the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010, hereby gives notice of public pre-application event be held in Berneray Community Hall, Berneray, North Uist, Western Isles on 25/06/26 and between 1800-2000 hrs.
The event will run as a drop-in session where participants can review project plans, the draft application and hold discussion with the project team.
The project will transplant seagrass shoots from nearby seagrass beds, using scientific best practice methods, commercial diving and boat support.
A Marine Licence application is required on account of the proposed scale of the activity, the use of boats and divers, deposition of temporary moorings, the removal and deposition of seagrass and some transplanting materials and the removal of sediment for scientific analysis.

Persons wishing to provide comments to the applicant should do so by 06/08/26 and to the above email address. Comments provided by this date are not representations to Scottish Ministers.
If the prospective applicant makes an application for a Marine Licence there will be an opportunity for representations to be made to the Scottish Ministers on the application.
