What is planned?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (LOW STREET) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 26th March 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Regulation 9 of the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Procedure Regulations 1992, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the section of footway listed in the Schedule. The Order is required to facilitate the excavation and removal of an existing chamber. The order will come into force on 5th April 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, the works are expected to be completed within 7 days. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the section of road listed in the Schedule below. An alternative route will be provided. Schedule - Low Street from a point 7 metres south-west of the eastern building line of 14 to 86 River View, for a distance of 23 metres in a north-easterly direction.
