What is planned?

NATIONAL GRID ELECTRICITY TRANSMISSION PLC
SECTION 47 OF THE PLANNING ACT 2008 (AS AMENDED)
CHESTERFIELD TO WILLINGTON PROJECT

NOTICE OF PUBLICATION OF A STATEMENT OF COMMUNITY CONSULTATION

1. In accordance with Section 47 of the Planning Act 2008 (the “Act”), notice is hereby given that National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (Company Number: 02366977) of 1 – 3 Strand, London, WC2N 5EH (“National Grid”) intends to apply to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero for a Development Consent Order (“DCO”) to authorise the construction and operation of Chesterfield to Willington (the “Project”).
2. The Project is a proposal by National Grid for a new high-voltage electricity transmission line with associated works in Derbyshire. The new overhead line will connect a new substation at Chesterfield to the existing Willington Substation. National Grid will consult on all aspects of the proposed development for the Project, including:
• a new 400 kV overhead line, approximately 60 kilometres in length between a new substation in the Chesterfield area and the existing Willington Substation;
• a new 400 kV substation at Chesterfield, to be built in the vicinity of the existing 275 kV Chesterfield Substation and the existing 132 kV National Grid Electricity Distribution (“NGED”) substation to the south east of Chesterfield (referred to as the “new Chesterfield Substation”);
• replacement of short sections of existing overhead line and local changes to the lower voltage distribution network to facilitate the construction of the Project; and
• other required works to facilitate the construction, such as temporary access roads, highway improvements, construction work compounds, ancillary works, utility diversions and drainage. Land would also be required for the mitigation and enhancement of the environment, which would deliver an overall Biodiversity Net Gain.
3. The Project will seek authorisation for the compulsory acquisition of land and interests in and rights over land, overriding easements and other rights, the temporary use of land, and other ancillary powers.
4. The Project is an Environmental Impact Assessment (“EIA”) development, as defined by The Infrastructure Planning (EIA) Regulations 2017. As such, National Grid has prepared a Preliminary Environmental Information Report (PEIR), which will inform consultation and an Environmental Statement will be submitted as part of the application, which will contain information about the environmental effects of the Project.
5. Under Section 47 of the Act, National Grid has a duty to consult the community Ton its proposals. The Statement of Community Consultation (SoCC) explains how National Grid will undertake the consultation, where the consultation documents can be viewed, where public events will be held and how people can comment on the proposals and provide responses to the consultation.

The consultation will take place from 12pm Tuesday 3 March 2026 until 11:59PM on Tuesday 28 April 2026.
Between those dates the SoCC and other consultation materials will be available to view in the document library on the Project’s website at: nationalgrid.com/chesterfieldtowillington.

6. Reference copies of the SoCC and other consultation materials will also be available to view free of charge from Tuesday 3 March 2026 for the duration of the consultation at the following locations in the vicinity of the Project:
