COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER 2025 (THE ORDER)
NOTICE OF PUBLIC INQUIRY
WHEREAS the London Borough of Tower Hamlets have submitted to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government for confirmation of an Order made by them under Section 226(1)(a) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and the Acquisition of Land Act 1981, which would authorise them to acquire compulsorily the land referred to in the Schedule hereto for the purpose(s) of facilitating the carrying out of development, redevelopment or improvement of the land described in the Schedule hereto consisting of a scheme including demolition of existing buildings (including three housing blocks and community centre) and other works, and the erection of residential and community uses, as well as new infrastructure (including accessible car parking, secure cycle parking spaces and refuse/recycling storage facilities), public realm (including associated landscaped communal amenity space) and access.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a public local inquiry into this matter will be held by Inspector Stephen Normington BSc DipTP MRICS MRTPI FIQ FIHE at 10am on Tuesday 9 December 2025 at Council Chamber, Town Hall, 160 Whitechapel Road, E1 1BJ. The inquiry is estimated to last for 2 days (Tuesday to Wednesday inclusive).
A copy of the Order and of the map referred to therein are on deposit at Tower Hamlets Town Hall and may be seen there, on application at all reasonable hours. SCHEDULE
The land and buildings known as Harriott House, Apsley House and Pattison House (‘the housing estate’), a community building (being the Redcoat Community Centre and Mosque), an electricity substation and land at the north-west corner of the housing estate and which are bounded by Stepney Way to the north, Jamaica Street to the west, Aylward Street to the south and Wellesley Street to the east, located within the Stepney Green Ward in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
