Notice of Intended Disposal of Open Space Land
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under Section 123 (2A) of the above named Act that Wigan Borough Council intends to dispose of the land by way of a lease for sports and community use.
This notice follows a recent statutory consultation process, required by the Secretary of State for Education to provide their consent for the intended disposal.
DESCRIPTION OF LAND a parcel of land 37,046m2 (398,660.6 sq.ft) located off Hall Street, Ince, Wigan. A plan of the site may be inspected during normal business hours at the Town Hall, Library Street, Wigan WN1 1YN by contacting the Legal Services Admin Section on 01942 827030 or by email to legalandrisk@wigan.gov.uk This notice is given in so far as the above land consists of or forms part of an open space within the meaning of the above Section.
Any objections to this intended disposal must be made in writing to the Assistant Director – Legal, Governance and Elections, Town Hall, Library Street, Wigan WN1 1YN quoting reference: RD/LS/161507 no later than Tuesday 16th December 2025 at 4pm.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN under Section 123 (2A) of the Local Government Act 1972 and Section 233 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 that Wigan Borough Council intends to dispose of the land described below for the purpose of securing the future use of the open land for housing development and implementation of supporting infrastructure and services.
DESCRIPTION OF LAND
Site 1:
Two parcels of land off Melrose Avenue, Leigh.
Total area: 0.42 Ha (45,208 Sq ft)
Parcel 1 – Open land to the East of 93 Melrose Ave, Leigh Parcel 2 – Open land to the rear and west of 28 Abbey Lane, Leigh.
Site 2:
Three parcels of land off Bracken Road, Gorse Walk and Erica Walk/Heath Lane, Leigh.
Total area: 0.84Ha (90,417 Sq ft)
Parcel 1 – Open land to the West of 40 Bracken Road, Leigh
Parcel 2 – Open land to the South of 12 Gorse Walk, Leigh
Parcel 3 – Open land to the South of Erica Walk and North of Heath Lane, Leigh Site 3:
Three parcels of land off Saddleback Cresent, Lamberhead Road/ Somerset Road and the Green, Norley Hall, Wigan.
Total area: 2.52Ha (271,250.5 Sq ft)
Parcel 1 – Open land to the East of Saddleback Cresent, Wigan
Parcel 2 – Open land to the North and South of The Green, Wigan Parcel 3 – Open land to the East of Somerset Road and North of Lamberhead Road, Wigan Site 4:
Land to the North and East of Christopher Street and Laburnum Avenue, Ince, Wigan.
Site comprises of former Council Depot and surrounding open space.
Total area: 2.3Ha (247,569 Sq ft) Site 5:
Land known as the former Belle Green Primary School playing field, Ince, Wigan.
Total area: 0.91Ha (97,952 Sq ft) Site comprises of former school playing field.
Site 6:
Open land to the South of Lovers Lane/Gretna Road, Atherton. Total area: 3.1Ha (333,681 Sq ft) Site 7:
Open land to the North West of 12 North Lane, Astley, Tyldesley. Total area: 0.15Ha (16,146 Sq ft) Site 8:
Open land to the South of 31 Shelley Street, Leigh.
Total area: 0.67Ha (72,118 Sq ft)
