COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER 2025

HIGHWAYS ACT 1980

AND THE ACQUISITION OF LAND ACT 1981

COMPULSORY PURCHASE OF EMBANKMENT AT CUMNOR HILL, WEST OXFORD

  1. Notice is hereby given that Oxfordshire County Council has made The Oxfordshire County Council (Cumnor Hill Embankment) Compulsory Purchase Order 2025 under Sections 239, 240, 246, 247, 250 and 260 of the Highways Act 1980 (as amended) and Parts II and III of Schedule 2, and Schedule 3 to the Acquisition of Land Act 1981. It is about to submit this Order to the Secretary of State for Transport for confirmation, and if confirmed, the Order will authorise Oxfordshire County Council to purchase compulsorily the land and the new rights described below for the purposes of undertaking soil nailing and associated stabilisation works to the embankment and dedicating as public highway.

  2. A copy of the Order and of the accompanying Order Map may be seen at all reasonable hours at:

    (Monday to Thursday 9am-8pm, and Friday & Saturday 9am-5.30pm)

    ? Botley Library, 5a Church Way, Botley, Oxford, OX2 9TH

    (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 9.30am-5.30pm, Friday 9.30am-7pm, and Saturday 9.30am-1pm)

In addition, a copy of the Order and its Order Map have been made available online on the Council’s website at:

  1. Any objection to the Order must be made in writing to the Secretary of State for Transport, Department for Transport, National Transport Casework Team, Tyneside House, Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 7AR or by email to nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk before Friday 19th December 2025, and should state the title of the Order, the grounds of the objection and the objector’s address and interests in the land. It should be noted that your personal data and correspondence will be passed by the Secretary of State for Transport to the Acquiring Authority to enable your objection to be considered. Where the Order becomes the subject of Public Local Inquiry procedures, all correspondence is copied to the Inspector conducting the Inquiry and will be kept in the Public Inquiry library, where it is made available for public access. If you do not wish your personal data to be forwarded, please state your reasons when submitting your objection and the Secretary of State will copy your representations, with your name and address removed, to the Acquiring Authority and if there is to be a Public Local Inquiry they will be seen by the Inspector, who may give them less weight as a result.

THE LAND to be compulsorily acquired, is The Embankment adjoining Cumnor Hill, West Oxford, Oxfordshire and is shown coloured blue on the associated Order Map.
