What is planned?
Title: Mid Antrim Upgrade
Proposal: SONI (System Operator for Northern Ireland) is bringing
forward the Mid Antrim Upgrade Project. As part of the Mid Antrim
Upgrade, proposals include:
• a new proposed switching Substation at Whitesides Corner
(approximately 800m north east of the junction between Whitesides
Road and Portglenone Road), Terrygowan, County Antrim.
• an uprate of the existing overhead line between the existing Kells
Substation, Maxwell’s Road, Ballymena, Co Antrim and the new
proposed switching Substation at Whitesides Corner, Terrygowan.
• a new 110kV circuit between the new proposed Terrygowan
Substation at Whitesides Corner and Rasharkin Main switching
Substation, Finvoy Road, Rasharkin, County Antrim, consisting
of mainly overhead line with underground cable entry into the
Rasharkin Main Substation.

The Pre-Application Community Consultation process provides an opportunity
for the public to view plans for this proposed development, ask questions of the
project team and provide feedback.
If you wish to make comments on the proposals you may do so at the above
events and/or in writing to SONI Ltd, 12 Manse Road, Belfast, BT6 9RT before
30 January 2026.
