LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1990 (TCPA 1990) - S247 TCPA 1990 STOPPING UP ORDER LEYDEN STREET, E1

IN THE LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS

1. THE COUNCIL OF THE LONDON BOROUGH OF TOWER HAMLETS hereby gives notice that it has made an order under section 247 Town & Country Planning Act 1990 authorising the stopping up of a section of Leyden Street (carriageway only) at its junction with Cobb Street to its junction with Wentworth Street, E1 in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, described in Schedule 1 within this notice and to be carried out in accordance with the planning permission referred to in Schedule 2 to enable the development.

2. Copies of the order may be inspected by appointment at the offices of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, Town Hall, 160 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1 BJ quoting STO731214397/Leyden. Arrange appointment via highway.search@towerhamlets.gov.uk

3. Copies of the Order may be obtained, at cost, by application to the Highways Records Officer quoting STO731214397/Leyden at highway.search@towerhamlets.gov.uk

4. Any person(s) aggrieved by the order and desiring to question the validity thereof, or of any provision contained therein, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the above Act or that any requirement of that Act or of any regulation made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may, within 6 weeks from 16th October 2025, apply to the High Court for the suspension or quashing of the Order or of any provision contained therein.

SCHEDULES

1) The proposed section of highway to be stopped up is located between the junction of Leyden Street and Wentworth Street and junction of Leyden Street and Cobb Street. The area measures approximately 29.7 metres in length and 8.30 metres wide and shown hatched black on the plan accompanying the draft order.

2) Transformation and refurbishment of the Leyden Street existing Underground toilets and adjacent public realm, and new linear one storey building at ground level and introduction of sub terranean Cafe (Use Class E).
