What is planned?

Designation of Poets Road Conservation Area (No. 42)

Notice is hereby given that the London Borough of Islington (the Council), in pursuance of its powers under section 69 of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, determined on 25 September 2025 that the area described in the Schedule to this notice be designated as a conservation area.

The principal effects of this designation are as follows:

  1. Consent must be obtained from the Council for the demolition of any building in the area.

  2. Six weeks notice must be given to the Council before works are carried out to any tree in the area.

  3. Special publicity must be given to planning applications for the development in the area.

  4. In carrying out any function under the planning acts (and in particular for determining applications for planning permission) the Council and the Secretary of State are required to take into account the desirability of preserving and enhancing the character and appearance of the area.

  5. The Council is under a duty to formulate and publish plans to ensure the preservation or enhancement of the conservation area.

  6. Permitted development rights for development in conservation areas are more restrictive.
