PUBLIC NOTICE UNDER SECTION 121(2) OF THE CHARITIES ACT 2011
What is planned?
Leonard Cheshire
Disability (registered with
charity number 218186)
acting as corporate
trustee (Trustee) of St.
Michael's Home (Trust), a
charitable trust (registered
with charity number
218186-4) gives notice
that the Trustee proposes
to dispose by way of the
sale of the freehold and
leasehold properties
known as: St Michael's
Cheshire Home, Cheddar
Road, Axbridge BS26 2DW
(Property)
The Property was
previously used as a care
home and closed in 2023.
It is no longer suitable
to meet the needs of
the Trust's beneficiaries,
namely disabled men
and women. The age
and spawling design of
the Property, which is a
multi-level large Grade II
listed Victorian building,
makes it unsuitable as a
modern care facility and
means that the cost of any
material refurbishment to
bring it back into use would
be prohibitive for the Trust.
Even with refurbishment,
the building would still
not meet modern care
home requirements;
the isolated geographic
location, with no access
to public transport nearby,
will remain unsuitable for
residents' independence.
The Property stands
vacant, so no residents
will be impacted by the
disposal of the Property.
Any member of the
public wishing to make
representations on the
proposed disposal to the
Trustee is invited do so
by 5pm on 31 OCTOBER
2025.
Representations must
be made to Andrew Ball,
Project Manager
