PUBLIC NOTICE

PROPOSED DISPOSAL OF PLAYING FIELD LAND
Section 77 School Standards and Framework Act 1998

Notice is hereby given that North Yorkshire Council intends to apply to the Secretary of State for Education to dispose of playing field land following the closure of Fountains Earth, Lofthouse Church of England Voluntary Controlled Endowed Primary School, Lofthouse, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG3 5RZ on 31st March 2024.

To comply with Section 77 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 the Council must consult with various interested parties and members of the public on the proposed disposal.

The area under consideration is approximately 0.35 hectares, and is situated at Lofthouse, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, HG3 5RZ.

Any redevelopment of the area would require planning permission and as such would be subject to a separate consultation and approval process.

Views and comments on the proposed disposal of land at the former Fountains Earth, Lofthouse Church of England Voluntary Controlled Endowed Primary School site are invited in writing to the Corporate Director - Children and Young People’s Service, by email to

schoolorganisation@northyorks.gov.uk


All comments and representations received before the closing date will be taken into account and reported to the Secretary of State as part of the ‘Section 77’ application process.

This consultation will close at 5.00pm on Thursday 9 October 2025
