What is planned?

PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ACT 1990

ECCLESIASTICAL EXEMPTION (LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS) ORDER 1994

TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to the procedures of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Baptist Union of Wales for the purposes of the above named Order, Thaxted Baptist Church has applied to the Listed Buildings Advisory Committee for a Certificate of Authorisation to carry out the following works to their premises:

  • New shallower front entrance steps with a handrail on each side.

  • Enlarge the front vestibule with new glazed doors and screen providing views into the worship area.

  • To include new glazed doors opening into the vestibule from outside and new timber framed plastered partition with windows and glazed central doors leading into the worship area.

  • Enlarge existing small office opening off vestibule.

  • New solid wall and glazing for the gallery above the vestibule to match the new partition below.

  • New ramps to accommodate different floor levels to replace existing.

  • Removal of pews in order to gain access to electrical wiring, to carry out floor repairs and fit new floor covering.

  • Replace pews with suitable chairs.

  • New heating in the vestibule and worship area to replace existing pew heaters and wall-mounted heaters.

  • Investigate and treat dampness in side wall.

  • New lighting in the vestibule and worship area.

  • Investigate viability of solar panels and install if possible.

  • Replace pipe heating in church hall with panel heaters.

  • Decorations as necessary.

The Church building is listed Grade II and is in a Conservation Area.
