Notice of Confirmation of an Article 4 Direction

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Wakefield has confirmed a non immediate Article 4 Direction on 9th May 2025 under Article 4(1) to the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) (England) Order 2015 as amended.

The Direction relates to development comprising the change of use from a use falling within Class C3 (dwellinghouses) of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (as amended) to a use falling within Class C4 (houses in multiple occupation) of that Order and removes permitted development rights for this type of development from the date when the Direction comes into force. Planning permission will therefore be required for change of use from Class C3 to Class C4 once the Article 4 Direction is in force.

The Article 4 Direction applies to six separate areas in Wakefield and Castleford as set out below and identified on plans attached to the Direction.

Wakefield Agbrigg area
Wakefield College Grove area
Wakefield Lincoln Street area
Wakefield Peterson Road area
Castleford Centre North area
Castleford Smawthorne area

The Article 4 Direction was made on 23rd October 2024 and will come into force, as it has now been confirmed by the Council, on 24th October 2025.
