On 11 March 2025 South Tyneside Council submitted the South Tyneside Local Plan to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government in accordance with Regulation 22 of the Town and County Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 (as amended).
The Secretary of State appointed Inspector David Spencer BA(Hons) DipTP MRTPI to undertake an independent examination of the South Tyneside Local Plan 2023 – 2040.
South Tyneside Council hereby gives notice that the Stage 1 examination hearings for the South Tyneside Local Plan will commence on Tuesday 8th July 2025 at 10:00am, at the Clarion Hotel, Newcastle South, Boldon Business Park, Witney Way, East Boldon NE35 9PE.
Full details, including the hearing timetable, will be confirmed and published in due course. The hearings are open to the public to attend as observers. Please note that seating will be limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
In addition, the hearings will be live streamed online. A link to the livestream will be provided on the Council’s Local Plan examination webpage:

The hearing sessions for the Examination will normally run from 10.00am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 5.00pm. In some instances, earlier starts will be programmed and stated in the hearings programme.
