NOTICE OF DESIGNATION OF CONSERVATION AREA

PLANNING (LISTED BUILDINGS & CONSERVATION AREAS)

ACT 1990 SECTIONS 69 AND 70

CITY OF BRADFORD METROPOLITAN DISTRICT COUNCIL

ECCLESHILL CONSERVATION AREA

NOTICE IS GIVEN under the Planning (Listed Buildings & Conservation Areas) Act Sections 69 and 70 that City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council (“the Council”) have determined that the area described in the schedule to this notice should be regarded as an area of special architectural or historic interest the character of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.

The effect of the designation of the conservation area is as follows:

  1. Planning applications for development which would in the opinion of the local planning authority affect the character or appearance of the conservation area must be given publicity and representations received as a result of the publicity must be taken into account in determining the application.

  2. Anyone wishing to demolish a building within the Conservation Area must (subject to certain exemptions) first apply for consent to from the Local Planning Authority.

  3. It becomes an offence subject to certain exceptions to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully destroy any tree in the area except with the consent of the local planning authority.

  4. The local planning authority are now under a duty to formulate and publish proposals for the preservation and enhancement of the area.

SCHEDULE

THE ECCLESHILL CONSERVATION AREA

The Eccleshill conservation area is centred around 3 principal streets, Stone Hall Road, Moorside Road and Stony Lane. Approaching the area from the south-west, it commences at Acre Lane including up to No.30, Acre Avenue to Nos.7a and 14a. The bowling green and recreation ground are key spaces to the south of Stone Hall Road. The heart of the area is the junction of the 3 principal roads then extending eastwards along Stony Lane. To the south, Moorside Road is included as far as Nos.43 and 45 and including Norwell Place. To the east of Moorside Road, Quincy Close is included and Tunwell Lane extending to 10, 12 and 14 Sovereign Court and Tunwell Mills.
