Chesterfield Road South - Designation for Selective Licensing
What is planned?
PUBLIC NOTICE
Mansfield District Council HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that on 12 March 2025 in exercise of its powers
under section 80 of the Housing Act 2004 designated the following areas Streets within Central Ward
(Area 1), Streets within West Bank and Wainwright wards (Area 2), Streets within Market Warsop
Ward (Area 3), Streets within Eakring and Rock Hill Wards (Area 4), Streets Within Central Ward and
Bancroft Ward (Area 5)
The designation will come into force on 13th September 2025. It will have effect until 12th September 2030 or earlier, if the Council revokes the scheme.
The Scheme to which the designation applies has General Approval and therefore, the designation
need not be confirmed.
The designation applies to any privately rented houses in the area’s above unless one of the
exemptions specified in the Act applies. All private landlords who rent out property which falls
within this area must apply for a licence.

Any landlord, managing agent or tenant within the District should seek advice from the Council as to

Failure to apply for a licence is a criminal offence and under s95(1) of the Housing Act 2004, the individual could be liable on conviction of an unlimited fine. The Council, as an alternative, can impose a financial penalty of up to £30,000. In addition, an application may be made for a Rent Repayment Order requiring the repayment of rent or housing benefit to a period of up to 12 months under Section 96 Housing Act 2004.
