NOTICE OF HEARINGS RELATING TO THE H2TEESSIDE PROJECT

Notice is hereby given that at the dates, times and locations set out below, the Compulsory Acquisition and Issue Specific Hearings will be held by the Examining Authority appointed by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero for the examination of the application made by H2 Teesside Limited (the “Applicant”) for a Development Consent Order (“DCO”) for the H2Teesside Project (the “Application”).

The Application is for the construction, operation and maintenance of one of the UK’s largest blue hydrogen production facilities with a capacity of up to 1.2 gigawatts (“GW”) thermal. This equates to the production of approximately 160,000 tonnes of low carbon hydrogen per annum, with approximately two million tonnes of carbon dioxide being captured and stored each year.

The Application comprises the following main elements: the Hydrogen Production Facility (including two carbon capture enabled hydrogen production units each of 600 megawatts thermal (t)); its emissions and that the hydrogen production facility will be constructed in two phases); connections corridors including a natural gas supply connection, electrical connection works, water supply connection works, wastewater disposal works, a hydrogen distribution network; a high pressure carbon dioxide export pipeline and gas (oxygen and nitrogen) connections; temporary construction and laydown areas and contractor compounds; access and highways improvement works; and replacement land.

The proposed location of the Hydrogen Production Facility will be located on part of the Teesworks, which forms part of Teesworks, within the borough of Redcar and Cleveland. The connections corridors would be located within the boroughs of Redcar and Cleveland, Hartlepool and Stockton-on-Tees.

The Application is being considered for the H2Teesside Project and is the subject of a direction under section 35 of the Planning Act 2008 by the Secretary of State under section 35(1) of the Planning Act 2008. The Application was accepted by the Secretary of State for Examination on 25 March 2024 under section 55 of the Planning Act 2008 on 25 March 2024.
