Walsall - Houses in Multipl Occupation (HMO)
What is planned?
Notice is given by Walsall Council that it has made a borough wide, non-immediate Direction (“Direction”) under Article 4(1) of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development (England) Order 2015 (as amended). The Direction would require the need for planning permission to be obtained for a change of use from a dwellinghouse to a smaller HMO. A smaller HMO has six or fewer residents. This would replace the current permitted development rights given to smaller HMOs and bring them under the same planning procedures as larger HMOs.
The direction would come into force on 1 October 2025 subject to consideration of consultation.
The council is engaging in public consultation on the proposed Direction between the 30 September 2024 and 11 November 2024 and is seeking representation via questionnaire.
