TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING ACT 1990 TOWN AND COUNTRY PLANNING (CONTROL OF ADVERTISEMENTS) (ENGLAND) REGULATIONS 2007 PROPOSED DIRECTION UNDER REGULATION 7 TO CONTROL THE DISPLAY OF 'TO LET' BOARDS

Notice is hereby given that the County Council of Durham ("the Council") on 20 August 2024 made representations to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government requesting that he makes a direction under Regulation 7 of the Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007 ("the 2007 Regulations") to restrict the display of temporary advertisements relating to the letting of residential land or premises which are displayed on the land or premises to which they relate within areas of Durham City Centre Conservation Area.

The effect of a Direction under Regulation 7 of the 2007 Regulations would be to take away the deemed consent granted by Regulation 6 of the 2007 Regulations to temporary advertisements described in Class 3A in Part 1 of Schedule 3 to the 2007 Regulations in so far as it relates to temporary advertisements for the letting of residential land or premises. This would mean that no temporary advertisement signs for the letting of residential properties could be displayed on the land or premises to which they relate in the prescribed area without the Council's express consent.

Full details of the Council's representations together with a map defining the areas of proposed control are available for inspection at County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UL during the hours of 9am -4.30pm, Monday to Friday and are also available on the Council's website at www.durham.gov.uk. If you wish to make any representations about the making of this Direction your written comments should be sent to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Planning Casework Unit, Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, 23 Stephenson Street, Birmingham B2 4BH to arrive not later than 24 September 2024.

22 August 2024.

Michael Kelleher, Head of Planning and Housing Durham County Council County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UL
