Bradwell Quarry, Public Exhibition for Proposed Development of Low-Carbon Greenhouses
What is planned?
Public Exhibition
WHAT IS PLANNED?
1. Public Exhibition - proposed development of low carbon greenhouses at Bradwell Quarry.
2. At:
a. Silver End Village Hall:
Tuesday 21st November 2023 (12:00h to 20:00h).
b. Coggeshall Village Hall (Keys Room):
Wednesday 22nd November 2023 (12:00h to 20:00h).
REASON FOR THE PUBLIC EXHIBITION:
3. Oasthouse Ventures (OHV) Limited plans to develop a circa 40-hectare series of low-carbon greenhouses on previously quarried land at Bradwell, to the east of Braintree, Essex. The project will see a collaboration between OHV and the Indaver Integrated Waste Management Facility, under construction; the latter providing, currently emitted, heat and CO2 and on-site generated electricity to deliver an optimum growing environment for the growing of fresh produce (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers). The project is named 'Rivenhall Greenhouse'.
4. Once operational, and if planted solely with tomatoes-on-the-vine, the Rivenhall Greenhouse will be capable of producing circa 28'000 tonnes per year. This equates to circa 7.1% of tomatoes imports. The UK consumes 500'000 tonnes of tomatoes per year, of which circa 400'000 are imported. Imports are sourced largely from Southern Spain and Morocco, where water paucity and extremes of temperature, due to climate change, is increasingly threatening the security of supply; and the Netherlands, whose operating model is entirely dependent on natural gas.
5. Additional information can be found at www.rivenhallgreenhouse.co.uk with questions answered at enquires@rivenhallgreenhouse.co.uk .
Plans are in early development for this exciting project which will see more fresh produce 'Made in Essex' and the opportunity to develop a lasting horticultural economic eco-system in the region. We would be delighted to host you and gauge your thoughts.
