Public Rights of Way Notices

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS (Public Footpath No's 76, 78, 89, 127 (part), 133 and 134, in the Parish of Wilmslow)

Notice is hereby given pursuant to the provisions of Section 14 (1) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restriction) Act 1991, that the Cheshire East Borough Council has made an Order the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians on the following Public Footpaths: Public Footpath No.76 Wilmslow commencing at O.S. Grid Reference (OSGR) SJ 8661 8222 and running in generally north easterly, then north, north westerly, then north, north easterly and then north easterly, directions for approx. 537m to OSGR SJ 8678 8266.

Public Footpath No.78 Wilmslow commencing at OS grid reference SJ 8678 8266 and running in a generally north easterly direction for approx. 131m to OSGR SJ 8686 8275.

Public Footpath No.89 Wilmslow commencing at OSGR SJ 8674 8286 and running in a generally north, north westerly direction for approx. 501m to OSGR SJ 8646 8328. That part of Public Footpath No.127 Wilmslow commencing at OSGR SJ 8686 8275 and running in a generally north easterly direction for approx. 494m to OSGR SJ 8729 8298.

Public Footpath No.133 Wilmslow commencing at OSGR SJ 8677 8265 and running in generally northerly and then easterly, directions for approx. 31m to OSGR SJ 8680 8267. Public Footpath No.134 Wilmslow which commencing at OSGR SJ 8674 8286 and running in generally south, south westerly, then south easterly, then north easterly direction and then easterly, directions for approx. 40m to OSGR SJ 8677 8268. The closure is necessary to prevent the likelihood of danger to the public posed by an unsafe bridge and the collapse of part of the riverbank to the north of the bridge destroying part of the public footpaths in that area. The bridge abutment is at risk after the recent floods caused the river to erode the bank on which is it sited, and water is now flowing around it.

The alternative route that was in place now poses a safety risk due to a large hole, and an adjacent tree deemed to be unsafe. Consequently, it has been closed, together with the public footpaths leading to it.

The closure continues the restriction that came into force on 23 August 2023 and will continue in force for a period from that date for six months or until the situation is resolved, whichever is the sooner.
