Prescribed alteration proposal - Relocation to a new site and permanent expansion of Rowan Tree Primary School

Notice is given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 and the statutory guidance for proposers and decision makers 'Making significant changes ('prescribed alterations') to maintained schools, January 2023', that Wigan Council intends to make prescribed alterations to Rowan Tree Primary School, Green Hall Close, Atherton, Manchester M46 9HP. It is proposed that Rowan Tree Primary School is permanently expanded so that it can admit 154 pupils with an age range of 4 to 11 years. The Department for Education has identified the school to be rebuilt as part of the School's Rebuilding Programme and the local authority will also use the opportunity to permanently expand the school. To accommodate the proposed expansion and to deal with the current condition issues with the school building, the school will need to be relocated onto a new school site which is the former site of Our Lady of the Rosary RC School, off Heath Lane, Leigh. The proposed relocation and expansion will take 2 years to complete.
