What is happening?

SOUTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL (TEMPLE PARK CENTRE, SOUTH SHIELDS) ORDER 2026

On 9 September 2026 South Tyneside Council made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers. The Order which comes into operation on 16 September 2026 will:
Amend the existing Foreshore and Off Street Parking Places Consolidation Order to include Parking Places relating to Temple Park Centre Staff Parking Area located at south access under access bridge and Temple Park Centre Coach Park located from a point 165m south of its junction with John Reid Rd then 34m west in a westerly direction for 31m. Introduce 6 Disabled Persons Parking Bays at Temple Park Centre located from a point 17.4m southeast then 2.7m northeast of its junction with the Unnamed access to staff parking area both sides for 10m; Loading Bay on Access road to Temple Park Gymnastics Centre north side from a point 165m south of its junction with John Reid Rd then 65m west in a westerly direction for 5.9m; No Waiting At Any Time and No Loading/Unloading At Any Time on:- Access road to Temple Park both sides from its junction with John Reid Rd in a southerly direction for 60m; north side from a point 200m south of its junction with John Reid Rd then 15m southeast then 15.7m north east for 10m in a north easterly direction; east side (i) from a point 170m south of its junction with John Reid Rd in a southerly direction for 18m (ii) from a point 210m south of its junction with John Reid Rd then 20m in a south easterly direction then 22m in a north easterly direction for 27.5m in a north easterly direction and west side from a point 180m south of its junction with John Reid Rd in a southerly direction for 6m. Egress road from Temple Park north side from its junction with King George Rd in a westerly direction for 140m then in a south westerly direction for 20m and south side from its junction with King George Rd in a westerly direction for 140m then in a south westerly direction for 8m.
Access road to Temple Park Gymnastics Centre north side (i) from a point 165m south of its junction with John Reid Rd in a westerly direction for 34m (ii) from a point 165m south of its junction with John Reid Rd then 70m in a westerly direction for 70m covering the roundabout then a southerly direction for 77m covering the western kerb line and the turning head and south side from a point 165m south of its junction with John Reid Rd in a westerly direction for 95m then in a southerly direction for 64m.
Unnamed access road to Staff Parking Area both sides from a point 205m south of its junction with John Reid Rd in a southerly direction for 20m.
Full details are contained in the Order, which, together with a plan showing the lengths of road affected and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order, may be inspected from Monday to Friday between 10am and 2pm at the Town Hall, Westoe Road, South Shields, NE33 2RL. Any person who wishes to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Act or that any of the requirements of the Act or of any relevant regulations made under the Act have not been complied with may, within 6 weeks from 9 September 2026 when the Order was made, make an application for that purpose to the High Court.
