ENVIRONMENT AGENCY

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783

Somerton Weir Improvements
The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works to the Somerton weir along River Cary (NGR ST 49814 29055).

The proposed works will involve removal of the existing steps on the riverbank and installation of new precast concrete steps with handrail and access ladder to aid in channel access. There will be minor bank disturbance to remove the old steps and small element of vegetation clearance on the riverbank to enable the works.

The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement in respect of them. The works to the Somerton weir structure will be undertaken in October 2026.

The new access steps design and Preliminary Ecological Appraisal documents are available for viewing from the Environment Agency Project Manager.

Any person wishing to make representations in relation to the likely environmental effects of the proposed improvement works should do so, in writing, to the address specified below, within 30 days of the date of publication of this notice.
