Kent County Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to temporarily close Public Footpath CH76 between Thornden Wood Road and Public Footpath CH10 from 31 August 2026.

The path will be closed for a maximum of six months, although it is expected that it will reopen by October 2026.

The path is to be closed because of utility works near the path.

There is no alternative route.

PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION AND DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDER 2026

The above-named Order made on 15 July 2026 under Section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 will divert the entire width of that length of public footpath, which commences at an unaffected length of Public Footpath KH399A at NGR TQ 9043 5159 (point A) and heads in a west northwest direction for 237 metres to its junction with Public Footpath KH398 at NGR TQ 9021 5166 (point B). As shown between points A-B on the Order plan and will add a new length of public footpath with a width of 2 metres, which commences the aforementioned point A and heads in a south southwest, then southwest, then south direction for 214 metres to NGR TQ 9037 5139 (point C) before heading in a west northwest direction for 84 metres to a new junction with Public Footpath KH398 at NGR TQ 9030 5141 (point D). As shown between points A-C-D on the Order plan.

Any representation about or objection to the Order must be sent or delivered in writing to Emma Charlesworth at the Kent County Council (address as below; email as above) no later than 28 August 2026. Please state the grounds on which they are made.

Please note that objections/representations cannot be treated as confidential and may come into the public domain. Copies of any objections or representations received may be disclosed to interested parties, including the Planning Inspectorate where the case is referred to it for determination.

If no such representations or objections are duly made, or if any so made are withdrawn, the Kent County Council may confirm the Order as an unopposed Order. If the Order is sent to the Secretary of State for the Environment for confirmation any representations and objections which have not been withdrawn will be sent with the Order.

The Secretary of State for Transport has directed that the Order made by Kent County Council on the 08 February 2023, the effect of which was to prohibit all traffic from Public Footpath ZR681 has been extended for a further eighteen months, until the 08 February 2028.

The path is closed across the railway level crossing.

The alternative route is via Station Row and Public Footpath ZR238 and will be signed for the duration of the closure.

The Secretary of State for Transport has directed that the Order made by Kent County Council on the 01 August 2024, and subsequently extended until 01 August 2026, the effect of which was to prohibit all traffic from Public Footpath TR26 has been extended for a further 2 years, until the 01 August 2028 or until the completion of the works, whichever is the earlier.

The path is closed between Haine Road and New Haine Road.

The alternative route is via Haine Road South to the roundabout with New Haine Road and will be signed for the duration of the closure.

DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT FOR THE COUNTY OF KENT

DEFINITIVE MAP MODIFICATION ORDER 2026

On 20 July 2026 the Kent County Council confirmed the above Order without modifications.

The effect of the Order as confirmed is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by adding a footpath numbered WT432 with a width of 2.0 metres, which commences on The Green at NGR TQ 6579 4170 (Point A on the order plan) and then runs in a southernly to south-southeasterly direction and then in a south-south-westerly direction for 57 metres to a point on Maidstone Road at NGR TQ 6579 4165 (Point B).

All distances are approximate, all directions are general.

This Order became operative as from 20 July 2026 but if a person aggrieved by the Order desires to question the validity thereof or of any provision contained therein on the grounds that it is not within the powers of Section 53(3)(c)(i) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or that any of the requirements of Schedule 15 to the Act have not been complied with in relation to the confirmation of the Order, they may, under Paragraph 12 of Schedule 15 to the Act, within 42 days from 31 July 2026 make application for the purpose to the High Court.

The effect of the Order, as confirmed is to divert the entire width of that length of public footpath numbered WT432, which commences on ‘The Green’ at NGR TQ 6579 4170 (Point A on the Order plan) and runs in a southerly to south-south-easterly direction for 42 metres to its connection to an unaffected length of WT432 at NGR TQ 6580 4166 (Point D). As shown on the Order plan by the bold continuous line between Points A-D and add a new length of public footpath numbered WT432 with a width of 2.0 metres, which commences at ‘The Green’ at NGR TQ 6580 4170 (Point C) and runs in a southsouthwesterly direction for 34 metres to the aforementioned Point D. As shown on the Order plan by the bold broken line between Points C-D.

The Order came into force as from 20 July 2026 but if any person aggrieved by the Order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980, as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act which has not been complied with in relation to the Order, he or she may under Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by Paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within 6 weeks from 31 July 2026 make an application to the High Court.
