MODIFICATION OR FORMALISATION OF CERTAIN MOVING TRAFFIC PROHIBITIONS

NOTICE OF PROPOSAL

The Medway Council (Prescribed Routes) (Various Roads) (No. 1) Traffic Order 2026

1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Medway Council proposes to make the above-mentioned Order under sections 1, 2 and 4 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended.

2. The general effect of the Order would be to extend the operation of the current Saturday 10am to 4pm pedestrian zone (no vehicles) in Rochester High Street, to include Sundays and Bank Holidays. The prohibitions and restrictions included in the Order are detailed in the schedule to this notice. The Order also updates and replaces No.713, making no material changes on the highway.

3. Copies of the proposed Order, the council’s statement of reasons for making the Order and other supporting documents, may be inspected at Chatham Library & Community Hub, Dock Road, Chatham, Kent ME4 4TX during normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive (except for bank and public holidays). Electronic copies of the documents can be requested by sending an email traffic. management@medway.gov.uk on the understanding that it may take up to five working days for the request to be processed and completed.

4. Any objections or other representations to the proposed Order should be sent in writing to Traffic Management Team, Medway Council, Gun Wharf, Dock Road, Chatham, ME4 4TR or by email to traffic. management@medway.gov.uk by Friday, 17 July 2026 to be considered.

SCHEDULE

(1) ‘No vehicles’ point restriction operating between 10am and 4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays: (A) BOLEY HILL, ROCHESTER from a point 4.2 metres south-west of its junction with HIGH STREET, ROCHESTER; applying to north-eastbound vehicles and (B) in NORTHGATE, ROCHESTER, from a point 18 metres north-east of High Street, Rochester, applying to south-westbound vehicles;

(2) ‘No vehicles’ point restriction operating ‘at any time’ except for access to off-street premises between 10am and 4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays from CORPORATION STREET, ROCHESTER (at its north-westernmost junction with High Street, Rochester) into HIGH STREET, ROCHESTER;

(3) ‘No vehicles’ point restriction operating ‘at any time’ between 10am and 4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays: BLUE BOAR LANE, ROCHESTER from a point 23.4 metres north-east of its junction with HIGH STREET, ROCHESTER, applying to south-westbound vehicles;

(4) ‘No vehicles’ point restriction operating ‘at any time’ between 10am and 4pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays: from CROW LANE, ROCHESTER from a point 26.5 metres south-west of its junction with HIGH STREET, ROCHESTER, applying to north-eastbound vehicles.
