Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult - Harbour Frontage Repair Works
What is happening?
MARINE AND COASTAL ACCESS ACT 2009
APPLICATION FOR [MLA/2026/00130 and OREC Harbour
Frontage Repair Works]
Notice is hereby given that Mr Ian McGuigan, Port of Blyth, Charles Parsons Technology Centre, High Quay, Blyth, NE24 2AZ has applied to the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, Part 4, for a marine licence to undertake the restoration and repair of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult (OREC) harbour frontage.
The intention is to repair the river-facing structures, infill voids, and carry out concrete repairs. These works aim to reinforce the development platform, ensuring the continued and enhanced operational capacity of the OREC Site. Currently, sections of the existing river infrastructure have been adversely affected by weathering and degradation, resulting in conditions ranging from good to poor. Repair works are considered necessary to address these issues. The proposal put forward in this Marine Licence application constitutes the essential enabling and repair works to support the long-term capacity of the Site, and would be in keeping with existing development activity required to promote continued growth of industrial capacity and competitiveness in Northumberland and the North East.
