VARIOUS ROADS, MEDWAY) (COMMUNITY EVENTS)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) (NO. 1) ORDER 2026

UNDER SECTION 14(1)(B) OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984

Notice is hereby given that Medway Council have made an Order the effect of which will be to impose the following temporary prohibitions or restrictions on traffic to facilitate the construction and removal of structures required for the holding of public community events, or because of the likelihood of danger to the public whilst an event is taking place –

Traffic Management - To facilitate the holding of the events mentioned in column (1) of the Table, on the dates and between the times set out in the corresponding columns (2) and (3), the traffic management provisions detailed in the Schedule identified in the corresponding column (4) will apply.

These provisions will be in force as indicated in the Schedule below.

Pedestrian traffic will not be affected. Alternative routes for through traffic will be signed locally. Access to premises will be maintained where possible.

This Order will come into force on Saturday, 28 February 2026 and will cease to have effect on Sunday, 30 August 2026. The Order will only be effective when the appropriate signs are displayed.

Schedule AFD26-1: Road Closures and Traffic restrictions

• Main Gate Road – entire length.

• Dock Road – no vehicles permitted to right turn southbound at the junction of Main Gate Road.

Schedule CT26-1: Road Closures and Traffic restrictions

• High Street Chatham from its eastern junction of Waterfront Way to its junction with The Brook, to include the junctions with Clover Street, Batchelor Street and Church Street – to include suspension of one-way operation for authorised vehicles.

• Church Street from its junction of High Street to its junction with Rhode Street, to include its junction with Whittaker Street – to include suspension of no entry and one-way operation to allow event vehicle access.

• Batchelor Street from its junction of High Street to its junction with Solomons Road – to include suspension of no entry for authorised vehicles.

• Clover Street from its junction of Richard Street to its junction with High Street – to include suspension of no entry for authorised vehicles.

• Military Road from its junction of High Street to its junction with Dock Road, to include its junction with Waterfront Way/Globe Lane - to include suspension of one-way operation for authorised vehicles.

• Railway Street from its junction of High Street to its junction with Best Street.

The roads above to include suspension of pedestrianised zone for authorised vehicles.

• Power Station Road, its entire length - allowing power station and event vehicle access.

• Grain Road from its junction of Power Station Road to its junction with Chapel Road.

• Chapel Road from its junction of Grain Road to its junction with Green Lane. High Street from its junction of Grain Road to its junction with Green Lane.

• Green Lane – its entire length.

• Pannell Road – its entire length.

• High Street Gillingham from its eastern junction of Skinner Street to its junction with Kings Street, to include suspension of one-way operation to allow event vehicle access.

• James Street from 55m south of its junction of Jeffery Street to its junction with High Street, to include suspension of no entry and one-way operation to allow event vehicle access.

• Green Street from 13m north of its junction of Theodore Place to its junction with High Street, to include suspension of no entry and one-way operation to allow event vehicle access.

• High Street from its western junction of Skinner Street to its junction with Arden Street, to include suspension of no entry and one-way operation to allow event vehicle access.

The roads above to include suspension of pedestrianised zone for authorised vehicles.

• Britton Street from its junction of High Street to turning head – inclusive.

• Marlborough Road from its junction of High Street to its northern junction with Lock Street. Fox Street at its junction of Arden Street.

• Mansion Row prohibited right turn to Wood Street.

Schedule MM26-SP-1: Suspension of on-street parking bays as indicated by signs. Suspension of single and double yellow line restrictions to no waiting or loading/unloading at any time, as indicated by signs and AAT cones.

• Castle Hill from its junction with Esplanade to its junction with Epaul Lane, to include Castle Hill Court – to include suspension of one-way operation to allow resident/event vehicle access.

• Epaul Lane from its junction with Castle Hill to its junction with Boley Hill – to include suspension of no entry and one-way operation to allow resident/event vehicle access.

• Boley Hill from its junction with High Street to its junction with St Margaret’s Street.

The roads above will be closed intermittently throughout these dates to allow for vehicle/plant ingress and/or egress to the Castle Gardens and Castle Moat areas.

• Boley Hill at its junction of High Street, suspension of prohibited left or right turn for authorised vehicles only – ‘Live’ event days only 24/7.

• Corporation Street (Chatham bound) no vehicle is permitted to right turn into Northgate.

• Corporation Street (Strood bound) no vehicle is permitted to right turn into Gas House Road.

• Gas House Road – no vehicle is permitted to turn right into Corporation Street.

• Esplanade, Rochester from its southern side of Bakers Walk to the north side of Shorts Reach roundabout (both sides).

• Esplanade on street parking – entire length (both sides) excluding private RBT (Rochester Bridge Trust) bays.

• Crow Lane from its junction of High Street to it junction with Vines Lane (both sides).

• Northgate from its junction of Corporation Street to it junction with High Street (both sides).

• Blue Boar Lane from its junction of Corporation Street to its junction with High Street (both sides).

• Corys Road from its junction of Gas House Road to its junction with Common Creek Wharf (both sides).

Schedule RT4-26-1: Speed Reductions – No person shall cause any vehicle to exceed the speed limit of 20mph on the following roads:

• Corporation Street from its junction with Star Hill to its junction with Gundolph Square (Chatham bound and Strood bound) – speed reduced from 30mph to 20mph.

• Gas House Road – its entire length (both directions) - speed reduced from 30mph to 20mph.

• Corys Road from its junction of Gas House Road to its junction with Common Creek Wharf (both directions) - speed reduced from 30mph to 20mph.

• City Way from its junction of New Road roundabout to its junction with The Fort (north and south bound) – speed reduced from 30mph to 20mph.
