What is happening?

Lancaster City Council publication of the Councillors’ Allowances Scheme 2026/2027:
Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003
A Councillors’ Allowances Scheme has been agreed for 6 April 2026 until 5 April 2027.

On 17 December 2025 Councillors agreed, on recommendation from the Independent Remuneration Panel, that the basic allowance be increased by 3.2% from £4,434.15 to £4,576.04 per annum.
The scheme allows for carer’s allowances and travel and subsistence on approved duties in addition to the basic allowance and the following special responsibility allowances per annum:

Appeals Committee Chair £322.28

Standards Committee Chair £1,305.54
Leader(s) of Opposition Group(s) (allocated on a pro rata basis) £6,145.63
Champions - £1000 (maximum) allowance to be divided equally between serving ‘Champions’ to a cap of £272.39 each Champion per annum. There are currently two Champions (Armed Forces Champion and Champion for Disabilities) £272.39
