The Secretary of State for Transport has directed that the Order made by Kent County Council on the 04 April 2025, the effect of which was to prohibit all traffic from Public Footpath EBX20 has been extended for a further 6 months, until the 04 April 2026 or until the completion of the works, whichever is the earlier.
The path is closed between the Subway, Old Folkestone Road and NGR TR 6307 1399 at the top of the slope.
The alternative route is via open access land, the A20 bridge crossing and Old Folkestone Road and will be signed for the duration of the closure.

NOTICE OF CONFIRMATION OF PUBLIC PATH ORDER

PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION AND DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDER 2025
On 17th September 2025 the Kent County Council confirmed the above Order under Section 119 of the Highways Act 1980.
The effect of the Order as confirmed is to divert the entire width of that length of Public Footpath WC295, which commences at a point south of Marsh Quarter Farm at NGR TQ 8031 2631 and runs north-north-eastwards through north-westwards for 260 metres to NGR TQ8027 2655, then continuing northwards for 124 metres to NGR TQ8029 2668. A new length of Public Footpath with a width of 2 metres is provided, commencing at the aforementioned point at NGR TQ8031 2631 and running east for 22 metres to NGR TQ8033 2631, then north-north-westwards for 352 metres to NGR TQ 8025 2666, then north-eastwards for 47 metres to rejoin the existing line of the path at NGR TQ8029 2668. All directions general, all distances approximate.
A copy of the Order and Map may be seen free of charge during normal office hours at the offices of Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, Town Hall, Mount Pleasant Road, Tunbridge Wells or at the Kent County Council, History and Library Centre, James Whatman Way, Maidstone, Kent, ME14 1LQ, from 10am-5pm. The documents can also be viewed online at www.kent.gov.uk/prownotices.
The Order came into force upon confirmation, but if a person aggrieved by the Order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980 (the Act), as amended, and/or the powers of section 53A of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (WCA) or on the ground that any requirement of either Act or of any regulation made under them has not been complied with in relation to the Order, he or she may under Paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by Paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, and as applied by s53A(7) WCA, within 6 weeks from the 3rd October 2025, make an application to the High Court.
