OXFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

NOTICE OF CONFIRMATION OF PUBLIC PATH ANDDEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDERSHIGHWAYS ACT 1980, WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981
1. The Oxfordshire County Council, Stoke Row Bridleway No. 1 (part), Public Path Extinguishment and Definitive Map and Statement Modification Order 2025
2. The Oxfordshire County Council, Stoke Row Footpath No. 48, Public Path Creation and Definitive Map and Statement Modification Order 2025On 11 August 2025, the Oxfordshire County Council confirmed the above Orders under sections 118 and 26 of the Highways Act 1980 respectively and section 53A(2) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.

The effect of the Extinguishment Order as confirmed is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by extinguishing, as shown on the Order map:-
 Stoke Row BR1 running from OS Grid Ref SU 6857 8403 northwards for 38m 
to Stoke Row FP No. 1a at SU 6857 8405.

The effect of the Creation Order as confirmed is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by creating, as shown on the Order map:-
Stoke Row FP48 running from Newlands Lane at OS Grid Ref SU 6855 eastwards for 21m to the northern end of Stoke Row Footpath No. 1a at SU 
6857 8409, and continuing from the southern end of Stoke Row Footpath No.1a at SU 6857 8405 southwards for 38m to Stoke Row Bridleway No. 1 at SU 6857 8403.

The above Orders came into force on the date of confirmation but if any person aggrieved by an Order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980 (the Act), as amended, and/or the powers of section 53A of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 (WCA) or on the ground that any requirement of either Act or of any regulation made under them has not been complied with in relation to the Order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act and as applied by s53A(7) WCA, within six weeks from 19 September 2025 make an application to the High Court.

NOTICE OF CONFIRMATION OF MODIFICATION ORDERSECTION 53 OF THE WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981

Definitive Map and Statement of Public Rights of Way for Oxfordshire
Checkendon Bridleway Nos. 41 and 42 and Rotherfield Peppard 
Bridleway No. 40 Modification Order 2023

On the 8 August 2025, an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for 
Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed without modification the above order made under section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The effect of the order as confirmed is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by adding to them the bridleways: -
1. From Checkendon Bridleway 2 at SU 6844 8332 in a generally east-north easterly direction for approximately 174m to SU 6859 8338, then in a south easterly direction for approximately 189m to the Rotherfield Peppard parish 
boundary at SU 6873 8325, and from the Rotherfield Peppard parish 
boundary at SU 6877 8321 in a generally southerly direction for 
approximately 110m to SU 6878 8310 and then in a generally easterly 
direction for approximately 74m to SU 6885 8308 where it meets the 
Stoke Row Road.
2. From Checkendon Bridleway 41 at SU 6878 8310 in a generally southwesterly direction for approximately 172m to SU 6865 8300, and then in a southerly direction for approximately 83m to SU 6864 8292 where it meets Neals Lane.
3. From Checkendon Bridleway 41 at SU 6873 8325 in a generally south easterly direction for approximately 59m to SU 6877 8321 where it rejoins 
Checkendon Bridleway No. 41.

The order as confirmed became operative on the date of confirmation but if 
a person aggrieved by the order wants to question its validity, on the ground 
that it is not within the powers of section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or on the ground that any requirement of Schedule 15 to the Act has not been complied with in relation to the order, he or she may, under paragraph 12 of Schedule 15 to the Act, within 42 days from 19 September 2025, make an application for that purpose to the High Court.
