PROPOSAL FOR ENHANCED LEARNING PROVISION
AT YOHDEN PRIMARY SCHOOL, PETERLEE

Durham County Council (“the Council”) gives notice that it will be conducting a consultation under the requirements of ‘Making significant changes (‘prescribed alterations’) to maintained schools: Statutory guidance for proposers and decision makers’ 2025 regulations (“the Regulations”).
The school has been given permission to put forward a proposal for Enhanced Learning Provision (ELP) status. If granted, this will provide extra support for up to 22 children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).
The proposal aims to make sure that the children with SEND can attend a school which understands them and can help them to achieve their best. It will also create a bridge between mainstream and specialist education where they are able to receive support suited to their needs.
The school will give children with SEND access to a designated space for adapted learning based on individual needs. They will be given the opportunity to work in a smaller class size where their learning needs can be supported and they can develop independence.
The Council is gathering views on the proposal between 2 and 30 September 2025. For more information on the proposed change and to take part in the survey please visit the council’s website
