St. James Parade - Temporary Prohibition of Use by Foot Passengers and Pedal Cycles

What is happening?

CITY OF BRISTOL 

(PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY 308 (ST. JAMES PARADE) AND ST. JAMES BARTON ROUNDABOUT FOOTPATHS, CITY CENTRE, BRISTOL) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF USE BY FOOT PASSENGERS AND PEDAL CYCLES) ORDER 2024 

NOTICE is hereby given that the above order, made on 17th September 2024, has been continued in force with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport until 28th June 2028 or until such time as the works are completed, whichever is the earlier.

The effect of the order has closed, temporarily: - 

1. to pedestrians that length of public right of way as specified in Schedule 1 to this Notice; and 

2. to pedestrians and pedal cycles those lengths of footpath as specified in Schedule 2 to this Notice.

This order was required because works are being executed on or near the paths and would have expired on 23rd September 2025.

SCHEDULE 1 – Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians 
1. Public Right of Way 308 (St. James Parade) – from The Haymarket south westwards for 17 metres

SCHEDULE 2 – Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians and Pedal Cycles 
2. St. James Barton Roundabout Footpaths – 
(a) from Cannon Street generally eastwards for 55 metres 
(b) from a point 32 metres generally east of Cannon Street southwards for 25 metres

SCHEDULE 3 – Alternative Routes 

1. Public Right of Way 308 (St. James Parade) (part unaffected), Public Right of Way 309 (St. James Parade), The Haymarket and vice versa 

2. Cannon Street, Public Right of Way 307 (St. James Parade), Public Right of Way 308 (St. James Parade) (part unaffected), Public Right of Way 309 (St. James Parade), The Haymarket, St. James Barton Roundabout and vice versa
